Kathryne (Kate) Fassbender is the creator of the Dementia Letters Project and the granddaughter of
someone who lived with Vascular Dementia. Playing a range of roles, she walks with those on their
dementia journey, magnifying the importance of creativity and human connection. Digging into her
ArtBin as a classically trained musician, studio artist, theatre-maker, and using her academic foundation
in the Creative Arts Therapies, Kate serves others on the pillars of Education, Life Enrichment, and
Support. With 20 years of living in service to those with dementia, she has experienced both sides of the
dementia coin, learning what it means to be both a family and a professional care partner. This
experience has impacted the way she becomes relational with others in both a creative and dignified way.
Kate is a Certified Dementia Communications Specialist, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Certified
Dementia Care Professional, Purple Angel Ambassador, and Certified TimeSlips Facilitator trained in
building Creative Communities of Care. She is a dementia educator, speaker, Life Enrichment coach, and
creative engagement specialist.
